Earning a Beach Day after Climbing Koko Head
Another day that mixes a hike with a beach day. This hike is very similar to a stair climber machine at the gym. As challenging as it is to go up, we found going down to be a bit more difficult, but kept the reward of a good burger and malasadas in our heads to keep us going. After lunch, we headed to the beach and chilled until it was time to get ready for dinner, and ended the day then.

There is zero shade on the hike.
Don't be alarmed if you hear gun shots as you make your way from the parking lot to the trailhead and up the first couple sections... there is a shooting range nearby.
Also known as the Koko Head Stairs, this is an extremely steep hike in which you climb over 1,000 "steps" (abandoned railroad ties), to be rewarded with amazing views of Waikiki, Hanauma Bay, and Molokai on clear days.

Waikīkī Beach

Pick any beach along the Waikiki stretch. Some places are definitely busier than others, especially prime Waikiki Beach. If there are too many people for your liking, Kahanamoku Beach in front of the Hilton Hawaiian Village or Queens Beach in front of Honolulu Zoo are less busy in our experience.
