Kotor gets swallowed by cruise crowds by mid-morning. Beat them to the walls at dawn, then slip across the fjord to the half of the bay nobody photographs.
The day, stop by stop
6:30 AM
Climb the city walls at first light
The 1,350 steps up to San Giovanni fortress are brutal in the midday heat, so start in the dark. You get the ramparts, and the whole orange-roofed town below, entirely to yourself for sunrise.
9:00 AM
Macchiato on Trg od Oružja
Drop back through the Sea Gate and let the old town wake up around you over coffee in the main square.
11:00 AM
Row out to Our Lady of the Rocks
Drive 20 minutes to Perast and hire a local skiff out to the hand-built island church sitting in the middle of the fjord.
1:30 PM
Long lunch in Perast
Grilled sea bass and a carafe of Vranac on a waterfront terrace, with the bay doing all the work.
4:00 PM
Swim off Stoliv
Cross to the shaded western shore where the locals swim. No promenade, no crowds — just a ladder into deep, cold, clear water.
7:30 PM
Dinner up in Špiljari
Climb a little above the noise to a stone konoba under the walls for slow-cooked lamb and homemade rakija.
